How to Calm Your Mind and Body After a Breast Augmentation Surgery

In the days and weeks following your breast augmentation surgery, you may be eager to strut your stuff and showcase your newfound curves. Confident and passionate though you may be, the human body is no machine—in order to recover properly from surgery, you, your body, and mind requires rest and relaxation. By prioritizing your levels of health and comfort, you’ll ensure that you recover as quickly and as safely as possible—bringing optimal results.

Minimize Any Heavy Lifting

If you’re in the habit of exercising like a female Viking, you’ll want to tone it down over the next few weeks. Any overly strenuous workouts or activities involving heavy weights (more than you can comfortably carry) should be avoided during this interim. After receiving your breast implants at our New Jersey, Staten Island, or Brooklyn location, you’ll want to put the bulk of your physical activity on pause.

Instead of weight training or intense cardiovascular activity, we recommend a stroll at a local park or nearby neighborhood. As you can guess, you don’t want to stress your body more than is necessary as your skin and muscles heal from surgery.

Wear Your Post-Surgical Bra

Since your breast enhancement surgery in New Jersey, Staten Island, or Brooklyn, it’s likely dawned on you that your old bras simply won’t fit. In some cases, our surgical center may equip you with a designated post-surgical bra, intended specifically for the weeks following your surgery. If you’re not interested in wearing this bra, we advise that you avoid any bras made with underwire, as underwire may irritate your skin and implants.

Resist the Urge to Smoke

As you may have learned through an online ad or another article, smoking tobacco has a tendency to inhibit blood flow in your body—disrupting your recovery process post-surgery. Unless you mean to go cold turkey altogether, Dr. Pacifico will ask that you resist smoking for 3 to 4 weeks before and after your surgical procedure. In the same vein, excessive amounts of alcohol can also interfere with blood flow and oxygenation throughout your body—being a no-no as far as natural healing goes.

Lay On Your Back As You Sleep

Our last, and most crucial advise post-breast surgery, is simply this: lay down flat when you sleep, lest you displace or misshape your implants as they settle and heal. By propping up a pillow or two, you’ll give yourself the posture to sleep safely and comfortably.
